“What is the weather going to be like tonight in Havana?” dad asked me as we sat in my den.
I handed him my iPad and told him to look. I wanted to see how intuitive the little computer was to use. Dad opened Safari and was soon looking for weather about Cuba in Google.
“it is supposed to get down to between 55 and 59 degrees in Havana tonight,” he said. “Those people down in their little huts by the ocean are going to freeze their balls off!”
I chuckled and smiled.
We then looked up the last day for a white Christmas in the South and the last one Atlanta had was in 1880. That shows you how exceedingly rare that occurrence was.
The rest of the night I had that earworm of Joni’s Mitchell’s Harlem in Havana stuck in the brain for most of the evening.
The Great Christmas Bounty…
You know your starting your “old fart” phase when you are excited about getting some 600 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets from your aunt I have washed and dried them this morning and can’t wait to get to sleep under them today. I’ve heard such high thread count sheets are luxurious and so soft.
Let’s Go Back to Routine…
Working in retail over the holidays certainly tested my resilience and reserve. I am glad to report I successfully managed to pull it off without running out the store like a crazy man. Our biggest sellers were video games. They kept flying off the shelves as soon as we could stock them. They were so popular in the 20 to 30 year old crow that it made me worry something was bad wrong with me that I don’t like them and just can’t play them.

Well, Andrew, it looks like you survived the holidays. As usual, you are a font of knowledge. I am not going anywhere near an IPad or an IPod, but I certainly learned something about sheets and will now insist on nothing other than 600-thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets. Sleep is one of my joys. I puzzled a bit over the 20-to-30 year old "crow" that liked video games, but I soon figured it out. Happy New Year.
I must be an old fart, because I'd be thrilled with those sheets too!
And I think there are far worse things to be earwormed by than Joni...
Glad that it was a good Christmas. iPad's are neat. I was just working on mine while out on the boat.
My new job is working at a call center for an electric company. People sure were acting crazy over the holidays!!
im glad you made it through the holidays ,its a very hectic time of year . i am so glad you are back to writing a lot more like you used to , i missed it so much this is so enjoyable to read . hope you post some pics soon of you and your pups . keep on doing like you are happy new year to you
I slept on high thread count sheets on a cruise ship and it was, indeed, luxurious feeling. That was really a nice gift from you Aunt! I don't think there's a thing wrong with you for not liking video games. But you can bet most of those 20-30 year olds don't enjoy reading like you do.
I'm thinking I'd like an electric blanket too. Glad to see you up and running again. I really missed hearing about your life. Did I tell you I got a job at the probation and parole office? Interesting stuff, crappy pay, good benefits until Rick Scott takes over as governor I guess. Anyway I am back in the land of the working.
I'd love those sheets. I have one set of sheets that I use all the time...take them off to wash and dry and put them right back on. My sister can't believe I only have one set. I don't need more, though I might consider switching up for 600 count :)
I've been craving a iPad. I'm thinking the new ones will come out in January. Will I actually do it? It's a big purchase, but like you I love electronics.
