On this visit, Charlie brought me 8 regular Cokes, a gigantic ice cold sweet tea from McDonald’s, lots of junk mail, and a Captain D’s four piece fried fish plate for which the smell of fried fish about drove Maggie crazy. Maggie will sit on the couch next to me licking her lips while watching me eat until she gets a morsel.
Did you notice Charlie checking my mailbox? He does that every time he is over here. Charlie hides his bills from his wife so they come to my house clandestinely. He doesn’t want to get in trouble with his wife, Janice, about spending too much money. Charlie still ranks as one of Maggie's most favorite of all her visitors. She really put on a show yesterday barking crazily at Charlie’s arrival. It made this father of a fur-kid very proud.
Sometimes, I feel coddled about my father getting someone to watch over me like this in his absence. I sometimes also have to remind myself, too, that dad and Charlie Just care even though I am almost 40 years old. The diversity in meals certainly is very nice as well.
