Helen was cooking breakfast this morning when I stopped at my parent’s house to give my father some paperwork for Social Security. Dad wanted to make sure I had filled it out correctly and that it was mailed back promptly. Anytime I get anything in the mail from Social Security I get this doom and gloom feeling. They can be so intimidating.
“What are you cooking?” I asked Helen as she stood in front of the stove.
“I am making some sausage gravy and biscuits,” Helen told me. “Stay and eat with us.”
I told Helen I was already running late and needed to head to the Literacy Center. Helen just then pulled the biscuits out of the stove. I love Helen’s biscuits and she uses Bisquick as well which is interesting and surprising. Dad was in the den watching the TV and he asked me if I was volunteering this morning.
“I would’ve never thought in a million years that you would be so responsible about that,” he told me when I said yes.
It has taken a concerted effort on my part to get back in my father’s good graces.
